One of the most remarkable books to be published in Ireland for
many years.
A work of art, a celebration, a unique phenomenon
In 2008/2009 a research project supported financially by Ealaín na Gaeltachta
succeeded in locating, photographing and cataloguing the works of Liam O’Neill,
which had of course been scattered to many purchasers both nationally and
internationally. The ambitious project also involved research by Brenda Ní
Shúilleabháin in cooperation with the artist into the literary heritage of Corca
Dhuibhne – the subject region of O’Neil’s paintings.
Following the completion of this project, Brandon embarked on the publication of
this book, aiming to provide a unique representation of the art of Liam O’Neill
literally side by side with examples from the literary heritage of Corca Dhuibhne.
Published as a limited edition in hardback and slipcased, great care has been taken to
achieve the finest possible reproduction of the paintings. Each copy of the book is
individually numbered and the artist and the editor will be available to sign copies on
the night.
Liam O'Neill was born in Corca Dhuibhne, West Kerry, Ireland, 1954 and is among Ireland`s most talented contemporary artists. He is a self taught painter who, over the last twenty years, has shown work at the Royal Hibernian Academy, Oireachtas, National Portrait
Exhibition and Claremorris Open. His paintings are collected internationally.
Brenda Ní Shúilleabháin is the author of Bibeanna, has directed such documentaries as Do
Mhargadh Déanta and Tréigint; she was script editor for Dúil, which was nominated for a
Short Film Oscar in 2004.
